This summer, German giants Borussia Dortmund have been in the middle of a rebirth. Still nowhere near done, especially if Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang moves on, the club has seen some hugely impressive changes to their line-up for 2017/18.

One of the major adjustments we have seen at BVB so far, then, has been the creation of a fine blend of experience and youth that has been introduced in the last few weeks and months.

So, who are the new boys that we can expect to see in the BVB line-up in 2017/18?

  • Dan-Axel Zagadou. One few have heard of, Zagadou is huge. At just 18, he’s a competent and ball-playing defender who can go central or wide. Good on the ball and more or less immovable due to his incredible size, great balance and impressive pace, the big Frenchman will add a good bit of competition to a defence that was pretty porous last year.
  • Max Philipp. Seen by many as a ‘young Reus’, the creative and ambitious young German is just off a U21 European Championships win. He’s got talent, finishing class and a real intelligence on the pitch. By far and away the star man for Freiburg last year, Philipp adds another layer of interest and intrigue to the BVB attack.
  • Omer Toprak. Signed from Bayer Leverkusen at a good price, Toprak is a very impressive defender with poise, positioning, understanding with his teammates, good ball management and relatively high pace. He makes another good addition and is, for all intents and purposes, a stellar improvement over the inconsistent and untrustworthy Matthias Ginter.
  • Mahmoud Dahoud. For many Dortmunders, the most exciting signing. When Ilkay Gundogan made his way to Manchester last year, a host of new signings arrived – none who could do what Gundogan could. Now, Dahoud offers an impressive alternative, and is someone who can help to dictate the game and manage BVB attacks with more fluency last year. The perfect add-on to a midfield with huge talent already.

So, what Dortmund player are you most excited to see wearing the black and yellow?
