Having endured one of the worst nights in the clubs history in May 2012, it appears FC Bayern want to do it all again. Losing in their own stadium to Chelsea of London on penalties, Bayern were left bereft, having to make up for the loss with a win against Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

Keen to do it all again, apparently, Bayern announced on Thursday that they would be looking to secure the chance to host the Final again. Speaking about it was Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who said: “I’m able to confirm that FC Bayern, together with the City of Munich, will be officially applying to host the 2021 Champions League final,”

That would be the second time that the Final was held at the Allianz Arena since it first opened. It would be a prestigious moment for Bayern, and would be further recognition of the immense quality of their own stadia were it to be chosen among stern competition.

Despite what you might think, though, it would seem that Bayern have fonder memories of 2012 than you would assume. When asked about it, Rummenigge said: “Despite the huge disappointment of 2012 against Chelsea, we still think back fondly to the “Finale dahoam”. We’d be very pleased if UEFA granted us the chance to welcome the footballing world to Munich once again,”

So, were the bid were to be successful, surely Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery will have moved on by then?
