There are few better ways to get a look at a football player than to see him against your own team. Well, for FC Bayern, they got a first-hand look at Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong. And, if reports in Germany and in Holland are to be believed, they are very keen.
It’s long been reported that a Bayern splashing of the cash will come in 2019, with many new young stars to be picked up in a squad rebirth. Seemingly, chief among those talents is to be the young Dutchman, who has looked sensational for Ajax on more than once occasion.
While Ajax will never sell in January, remaining in Amsterdam beyond the summer would seem impossible. Win the league, and he has little realistically left to achieve in Amsterdam bar a UEFA Europa League run next year. Lose the league, and it might be time to go anyway.
So, it would be interesting to see who he goes to. Reports often linked with him most strongly with Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, but a move to the traditional German giant might be a more appealing move. The end of the season is likely to be when the bidding begins, and the latest gem to come from Ajax might be playing in red.
While City seemingly see him as the best replacement for Fernandinho after not getting Jorginho in the summer, it seems like Bayern might have just stolen a march on the rest of Europe for a genuine golden talent.
