As is often the case in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich attract the top young talent. Young players who love the league want to stick around, and Bayern are the best bet for trophies. Ever since the summer breakout of French star Benjamin Pavard, a move to Bavaria has felt like it has been edging closer and closer. Now, it has been confirmed. Pavard will leave Stuttgart in the summer of 2019, completing the rest of the year as he tries to help the Swabians avoid relegation to the 2. Bundesliga.
Having hit the €35m release clause in the contract for Pavard, Bayern have got their man. The deal announced by Sporting Director for Bayern, Hasan Salihamidzic, who said: “I can confirm that Benjamin Pavard will join us on a five-year deal from 1st July 2019,”
Despite playing as a central defender for most of his career, he has often moved to full-back for France and at times for his club side. With Bayern in need of youth in both positions, the signing makes even more sense.
He is a ready-made replacement for the likes of Rafinha, and would also offer a lot of cover for the likes of Mats Hummels, Niklas Sule and also Joshua Kimmich at full-back. For Bayern, the signing of one of the most composed and technically sound defenders in the league only helps with their desire to freshen up and rebuild their squad as they move towards summer 2019.
