When TSG Hoffenheim first came on the scene in the late 2000s, many fans stood up and noticed how many young talents they’d signed from outside of Europe. From Brazilian talents like Luiz Gustavo to smart signings like Demba Ba, the club hugely impressed. Over a decade on, and they are still producing some excellent players and talents. This summer, the club has seen major players such as Kerem Demirbay move on to competitive rivals such as Bayer Leverkusen. Now, they have a fantastic replacement in Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Diadie Samassekou.
The Malian was long linked with a move to Borussia Dortmund, having helped to put them out of Europe when he played against them in 2018. Other quality performances in Austria have finally seen someone make a move for the midfielder. Speaking about his move to Hoffenheim, the defensive midfielder said: “I consciously decided on this club,
“Hoffenheim’s reputation for promoting, strengthening and developing talents is known beyond Germany’s borders.”
With his ability to play in the middle of the pitch and hold a position as well as dictate play, the Malian has all the hallmarks of another major sale in the future. At 23, he’s impressive massively in the Austrian Bundesliga and has now taken the next step to further grow as a player. As one of the most interesting moves of the 2019/20 summer window, it’ll be intriguing to see how one of Africa’s brightest talents handles such a step-up in standards.
